How We Rate Sweepstakes Casino Brands

Our rank order isn't a popularity contest or a paid placement list. Here's exactly what goes into deciding where each of the 24 brands on this site lands, so you can judge our picks the same way we do.

1. Welcome bonus size and accessibility

We look at the total no-purchase welcome package (Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins, or a brand's equivalent currency), and just as importantly, whether it's genuinely free or hidden behind conditions. A large coin number with an unusually high redemption minimum scores lower than a moderate bonus that's actually reachable.

2. Game selection and variety

We note approximate game counts, whether a brand offers live dealer, table games, or a sportsbook, and how many software providers are represented. A deep, varied library scores higher than a narrow slots-only lobby, though we still include focused, slots-only brands for players who prefer that.

3. Redemption speed and minimums

We record the minimum Sweeps Coins balance needed to redeem, the payout methods offered, and typical processing time where a brand discloses it. Brands with lower minimums, more payout options, and faster processing rank more favorably.

4. State availability

Wider state availability generally scores higher, since a generous bonus doesn't help if it's not available where you live. We list each brand's publicly stated exclusions in its individual write-up.

5. Clarity of disclosed terms

We favor brands that make their bonus terms, wagering requirements, and restrictions easy to find and understand. Brands with vague, hard-to-locate, or inconsistent terms across their own pages are flagged accordingly.

How the editorial score (out of 5) is calculated

Each brand's card also shows a 1.0-5.0 editorial score, broken into the same five factors above: bonus accessibility, game selection, redemption ease, state availability, and clarity of terms. This is a rubric, not a black box — here's exactly how each subscore is set:

  • Bonus accessibility is scored from how reachable the Sweeps Coins portion of the welcome bonus actually is — factoring in the redemption minimum relative to what's given, the number of payout methods, and processing time.
  • Game selection is scored directly from the brand's approximate game count: 2,000+ games scores 5.0, 1,200-1,999 scores 4.5, 700-1,199 scores 4.0, 400-699 scores 3.5, and under 400 scores 3.0.
  • Redemption ease reflects the same minimum/method/speed factors as bonus accessibility, read from each brand's own stated redemption terms.
  • State availability is scored from the number of states a brand names as excluded in its own public terms: 3 or fewer scores 5.0, 4-9 scores 4.5, 10-14 scores 4.0, 15-18 scores 3.5, and 19 or more scores 3.0.
  • Clarity of terms starts at 5.0 and loses a point if a brand's own offer language flags its bonus amount as variable or unconfirmed, and another point if its state-exclusion list is partial or unpublished rather than fully named — with a floor of 2.0.

The overall score is a simple average of the five subscores, rounded to one decimal place. It's a separate, reproducible signal from our 1-18 rank order above — the two usually agree closely, but rank order also weighs our broader judgment call on each brand (see factors 1-5 above), so a small difference between a brand's rank position and its score is expected and not an error.

What we don't factor in

We don't accept payment in exchange for a higher ranking, and marketing relationships with a brand don't influence its position on this list or its score. We also don't base scores on personal play-testing or timed payout experiments — we haven't claimed to run either, and we won't fabricate that kind of first-hand testing data. Our comparisons are built from cross-checked public information, clearly labeled where something couldn't be confirmed.

How often we update

Sweepstakes casino promotions can change weekly. We periodically re-check bonus figures, game counts, and state restrictions and update brand entries when something has changed materially. The "last updated" date at the top of each page reflects the most recent full review.
